The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Higher Education and Student Affairs at App State prepares reflective, equity-minded leaders for entry- to mid-level positions across student affairs and higher education administration. This 36-semester-hour program integrates theory, research, and practice to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to lead in today’s diverse and dynamic educational environments.

Graduates are equipped to take on leadership roles across a wide range of student affairs and administrative functions, including academic advising, career development, diversity and inclusion, orientation, residence life, student conduct, leadership programs, and global learning initiatives. They are prepared to advance student success, foster inclusive and supportive campus communities, and contribute to institutional change through collaborative and strategic leadership.

Through rigorous coursework, experiential learning, and a commitment to inclusive and ethical practice, students learn to apply research and theory to real-world challenges. The program cultivates adaptable leaders who are prepared to shape the future of higher education through innovation, critical reflection, and transformative action.

Curriculum/Program of Study

The curriculum is intentionally designed to blend theoretical foundations with practical application, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for meaningful study, professional growth, and career advancement in higher education.
